從首場活動開始，我們便受到如同老友般的歡迎，彷彿始終是SALT社群的一員。那份歸屬感瞬間湧現。孩子們立刻投入其中——寫卡片、打包便當，結交來自世界各地的朋友。志工服務成為我們真正能共同參與的事。

最初在SALT ’N Found活動中，我感受到雙方都帶著猶豫——經歷無家可歸的人們，與我們同樣對互動感到不安。但一旦開啟對話，恐懼便消散了。我們遇見的人們親切、坦率且充滿故事。這提醒著我們：人終究是人，渴求的都是相同的事物——連結、善意與尊嚴。最震撼的是現實與媒體常呈現的形象相差甚遠⋯⋯這段經歷改變了我的視野，『我們』與『他們』之間的界線，遠比想像中更為模糊。

Although I may have been intrigued and wanted to volunteer, I was hesitant at first, I felt like any “free time” I had should be spent being by myself rather than volunteering somewhere. 🙈 But with my husband’s encouragement, I went to one SALT Kitchen and have been committed to SALT ever since.

Even as a small kid I always liked to help others. I am from a very small village back home, so I literally knew every person in the village. When I came to Taiwan, I had some extra time during the weekend, but I didn't know many people or know what to do. All I knew was that I wanted to help the community. After a while, I found you guys. 🙂

I initially reached out to SALT about my interest in the soup kitchen, but at the time the slots were full. However, they were gracious enough to hit me up about a week or so later about the monthly car wash that still had available slots. So, I jumped on the opportunity and signed up! No regrets since then 🙂

The #GivingTreeTW enabled me to realize how blessed I am to have virtually everything I need or want and to be able to give back to those who are in need. Nothing beats the expressions of joy and gratitude from the people we helped. It was an experience I will forever cherish and something I would love to be part of again.

Even though I’m an introvert that isn’t socially adept, I’ve always felt welcomed in the SALT Collectiv community. They truly have a genuine desire to empower both volunteers and the marginalized by building a community up in love.

Why do I like the SALT Kitchen? To me, it’s fun. I feel happy to work with a group of young, energetic people. We learn and grow, talk and laugh. We have fun. I feel younger! Saturday morning is my happy hour! To me, it’s also meaningful. Serving others makes life meaningful. When handing over the bentos to our friends of street (街友), we see their beautiful smile and hear their appreciations: “You take cake! Jesus loves you too!” We were touched, feeling life is worthwhile doing this service.
